Should the sensor be wired up to the MS for this test? It currently is not. This is not listed as a possibility in the test, so I'm not sure where to go from here. Now no matter what position the engine is in, I see +12V on my Fluke. We currently carry 10 Camshaft Synchronizer products to choose from for your 1996 Ford Explorer, and our inventory prices range from as little as 42.99 up to 109.99. Red is connected to +12V, Blk/Wht is grounded, and I have my Fluke measuring voltage between the Blu/Org signal wire and ground. Per page 70 of the MS3XV30 hardware manual, I'm testing the sensor to see if I need to add a pullup resistor. Here's a photo from RockAuto of the sensor: Per my internet research, I believe that the cam sensor was a hall unit until '97 or '98 and then they switched to a VR sensor for '99-'01. Per the wiring diagram for my engine (1997 Ford Explorer 5.0), the camshaft position sensor has three wires: Red goes to +12V, Blk/Wht goes to ground, and Dk Blu/Org goes to the ECU as "CAM POS IN". For now I'll start with what should be an easy one. Now that my MS is built and wired up to the engine on its test stand, it's time for an endless stream of questions.
